Age 85
Of Woodbury, MN

Passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Chuck was born in St. Paul, MN to parents Wallie Westling and Nettie Buhrman. He graduated from Harding High School in 1949, was an active member of the Y's Club with No Name, and served in the US Army during the Korean War, for which he was recognized with numerous honors and medals, including the Purple Heart. He married Carol Stewart in 1956 and together they raised three kids on the eastside of St. Paul. Chuck spent his career in the telephone business in a love/hate relationship with Ma Bell, retiring 1986. He took his young family on "looong" road/camping trips each summer, enjoyed golfing and playing the piano, was an avid reader and lifelong learner who was particularly fascinated by science, nature and family genealogy. Chuck is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol, and was a gentle and proud father of his three kids, Lynn (Chuck) Kolars (Woodbury), Susan Link (Woodbury), and Tom Westling (Maplewood). His three grandchildren, Gina Link, Joe (Molly) Link, and Emily Kolars, brought him so much joy; his great-granddaughter, Posey, lit up his world. Chuck is also survived by his sisters, Carole Steffenson (White Bear Lake) and Sherri Gudmunson (St. Paul), many nieces and nephews, his son-in-law Bill (Colleen) Link, and many dear, lifelong friends. Thank you to the Lakeview Hospice team who provided extraordinary care and compassion to Chuck. A special thank you to Dena from Baywood for her gentle care, kindness and support during the final two months of his life. Funeral Services for Chuck will be at 11 AM Friday, March 17, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church 1730 Old Hudson Rd, St. Paul. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday March 16, 2017 at the Wulff Funeral Home Woodbury Chapel, and again one hour prior to funeral services Friday at the church. Chuck will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
