Was born December 2, 1927 in Ijuhy, Brazil to missionary parents. He died Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Oakdale, Minnesota. Ed was baptized on December 11, 1927. He confirmed his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Long Prairie on June 1, 1941. Ed served in the US Army 82nd Airborne from 1945-1951, and he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. On February 5, 1954, he married Phyllis who followed him to Papua New Guinea where they served as missionaries for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod...

Was born December 2, 1927 in Ijuhy, Brazil to missionary parents. He died Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Oakdale, Minnesota. Ed was baptized on December 11, 1927. He confirmed his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Long Prairie on June 1, 1941. Ed served in the US Army 82nd Airborne from 1945-1951, and he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. On February 5, 1954, he married Phyllis who followed him to Papua New Guinea where they served as missionaries for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod from 1954-1974. Ed initially served as business manager for a quickly expanding mission field among the Enga people. Then he became involved in economic development and Managing Director of WASO Limited, a company formed to help the Enga people learn business skills and develop markets for their cash crops. Ed will be remembered for his faithful witness for Jesus Christ; his service as a missionary in Papua New Guinea; and his love for his family. Upon returning to Minnesota, Ed continued to use his accounting skills to support the work of the Kingdom of God. He served as volunteer treasurer for St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake; was treasurer for an inner city ministry in South Minneapolis; and founding treasurer for the Papua New Guinea Mission Society. Ed is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 63 years; children, Mark Dicke; Jeanne Dicke; Martin (Marie) Dicke; and Kay (Roger) Rehbein; grandchildren, Caroline (Zach) Sanderson; Daniel Rehbein; and Sarah Rehbein; sisters, Margaret (Edward) Weerts and Elinor (Willard) Burce; and many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Edward A. and Edith Dicke; sister, Dorothy; and brothers, Martin and Harold. Ed was active in service to his church and a founding member of the Papua New Guinea Mission Society. He enjoyed gardening, singing, sports, and spending time with family. Memorial Service will be Friday, March 17 at 11 AM with Visitation one hour prior at Woodbury Lutheran Church, 7380 Afton Rd, Woodbury. Interment at Union Cemetery, Maplewood. Memorials are requested to: Papua New Guinea Mission Society, Lutheran Hour, and Woodbury Lutheran Church.
